Viola’s House Issues Call to Action on Black Maternal Health in Dallas
Viola’s House, in collaboration with United Way of Dallas and Parkland Health, will host “A Conversation and Call to Action on Black Maternal Health” on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the United Way Dallas, 1800 N. Lamar Street, Dallas, TX 75202. The event comes ahead of Black Maternal Health Week, April 11-17.

NBC DFW and Telemundo39 recently reported about the challenges facing Viola’s House after funding for a $1.25M federal grant, awarded in 2024, was unexpectedly halted. The stories highlight how the organization has had to act quickly and strategically to ensure that thousands of clients continue to receive vital support as Viola’s House works to sustain the strength of its team and operations in the wake of a budgeting shortfall.

"Viola’s House will receive a $25,000 check from the Mavs Foundation during halftime of the Feb. 4 game. The funds will provide support to Viola’s House Teen Maternity Program. The program offers life skills, education, and training in financial literacy, parenting, and counseling."
It’s thanks to Viola’s House, a maternity home for homeless teenagers. The organization understands the struggle moms are facing these days. “Diapers, wipes, socks, bottles, essentials mothers need for their baby,” said Thana Hickman Simmons, the CEO of Viola’s House.
